Wrought iron curtains are known for their long life and ease of installation. However, before you install your new rods, take into account their size. If you purchased a rather thick rod, it will be heavier and may require extra support for proper installation. Just imagine a heaver curtain rod with even heavier drapes all pulling on your wall. Look for support brackets to help spread the weight. If unsure, ask a customer service person at your local hardware store for advice.
Do you want your curtain rod exposed or hidden by the curtains? If it's exposed it should match the room's style and d'(c)cor, so look around the room to figure that out. (A lot of you don't have to do that; you just know your style. But there are others....)
And that brings up another point: using holdbacks isn't the same as painting or wallpapering a room. You're not "stuck" with the change ' you can use these curtain accessories or not use them, it's your choice! Want to impress your guests at that formal dinner? Use the holdbacks. Having a Sunday football party? Don't use them ' and they're out of sight!
The material you select for your window curtains will depend upon the upholstery of your furniture and the color of the walls. You also need to decide whether you want a thick material to block out sunlight or a lighter material that will let sunlight filter through. If you want to your curtain to be made of silk, make sure that you line it with cotton and interline it with flannel. If you don't do this, the sunlight will fade your silk and you will have to keep replacing your curtains often.
