Before putting it up, you may treat it in any way you like. You may stain it, or paint any color of your choice over it to match the decor as well as the curtains you are going to use. Don't go way off track in terms of painting, else it will steal the natural element of the rod.
1. Choose a Fabric Buy a fabric of your choice to make eyelet curtains. Depending on the room for which it is, choose a color and fabric, there are also many interesting curtain patterns. It is always better to go in for a lightweight or medium weight fabric, such as sheer cotton, linen, organza and lace. If the fabric is too heavy, the eyelet tape may not be able to withstand the weight of the fabric. If you want a heavy fabric in particular, then remember to take eyelets and a tape accordingly.
If you want to have a country home setup, then you have lots of possibilities to choose from. Easiest is to find a tree branch that would be perfect for your window and would match your cafe curtains. Besides the wood as a classic, you can also pick an iron rod or some old, rejected part that can fit as a curtain rod.
