Horizontal blinds are not commonly used for doors as there are certain difficulties related to it. Firstly, when these blinds roll up horizontally, they can stack at the top of the door and come in the pathway. However, this is not a problem if the doors are high enough. Secondly, cords of the horizontal blinds are longer in length and can stack in the doorway. Both these features can be bothersome. Apart from it, there are hardly any other disadvantages of using these blinds. When used for bringing light or sunlight into the room, horizontal blinds are more convenient than the vertical ones. If you wish to have horizontal blinds, then you can also consider going for Roman shades. Horizontal blinds are available from $10 and above; with those made of faux wood priced at $100 onwards.
Now you have to decide the correct position for hanging the curtain and then fix the rods. Make sure the rods do not hamper movement of the window panes or the doors. The brackets need to be positioned in such a way that they will be symmetrical to the curtains once hanged. You can mark the position roughly with a pencil and ruler.
Since these rods are impounded on one side of the wall or a window, its seen that when the drapes or hanging curtains are closed, they appear like a different rod altogether. And for opening the drapes, all you have to do is retract the draperies on the rod and they swing open like a flexible door. The installation is such that, this curtain rod is fixed with screws into a bracket which again, is attached to the section on a wall and can open easily on the right or the left side. Since, the rod is fixed at one end, decide from the beginning as to which side you want the drapes to swing from.
