Holdbacks and tiebacks serve the same purpose: to gently scoop up your curtains and hold them at the side of the window. Holdbacks are attached directly to the wall. Tiebacks are often lengths of cording, some with tassel ends that tie around the "belly" of your open curtains to hold them back.
The first and most crucial step is to take measurements. Take the measuring tape and draw markings for the brackets at least five inches above the upper edge of window frame. Lightweight frames can also be hung on the window frame itself.
Vertical blinds can be of any material: wood, cloth, or aluminum. Dust can't be prominently noticed on them unlike in case of horizontal blinds, but they require regular cleaning nevertheless. All the above-mentioned methods can be used to clean vertical blinds; however, the trick is to protect the windows behind and the floor below them as well. Once that is taken care of, there is absolutely no problem. Removing them and cleaning them in a bathtub is the easiest way, barring the exception of wooden blinds, which will need to be vacuum-cleaned and dusted.
