Curtains and drapes are the most common window treatments. Apart from adorning your windows, they also protect your home from dust and glare of sun. However, oftentimes, these words are used interchangeably as most people cannot tell the difference between curtains and drapes. Even experts fumble when it comes to defining the two. Earlier, these two terms referred the makers of window treatments and not the window treatments themselves. Drapers were the merchants who sold fabric to curtain makers, who went home to home, to take measurements and sew curtains. They used to measure curtain drapes and make window treatment for homes.
Roll up shades or window blinds have slats that are mainly used to prevent light from entering a room. The slats are made of wood, metal, fabric or even plastic. Metal blinds are usually used for outdoors as they are weather resistant and durable. These blinds have a string or a cord which enables one to change the degree of the slats, depending on the amount of light required. Slats on these blinds can be either horizontal or vertical. Horizontal window blinds are more commonly known as Venetian blinds. The vertical roll up blinds, though not as common as horizontal ones, are easier to use and clean, and can even be used for doors.
6. Measurements for Eyelets At the top of the fabric, measure about 3 inches from the side and mark with a pin. Then mark 4-6 inches from the first pin and place another pin, continue along the entire width of the curtain. At the end, you should still have some fabric left. The distance between two eyelets can be decided depending on the look you want. This can be done using a template that comes with the eyelet set.
